Chelsea player ratings

Given - Handling and decision making was very good throughout. 7

Richards - Struggled against the pace and quality of Anelka. Too many rash challenges. 6

Kompany - Back in defence and performed well apart from question marks on the opening goal. 7.5

Lescott - A nice partnership building with Kompany. Was strong against Drogba - no mean feat. 8

Bridge - Ridiculously booed throghout but put in a solid display. 7.5

de Jong - Restored to the side and his combative nature helped set the tone. 7

Zabaleta - Form has been sketchy of late but was impressive yesterday. Looked at home in midfield. 7.5

Barry - Best game for some time. As the game opened up he contributed well in attack. 8

Johnson - Saw plenty of the ball early on but by and large struggled to create anything. 6

Bellamy - Stymied by the tactics early but his pace told as the game wore on. 8

Tevez - Showed what we have been missing. His pace and movement really set the tone. Superb. 8.5

Subs:

Wright-Phillips - A different option than Johnson and was better suited as the game became stretched. 7

Santa Cruz - Introduced with a switch to a 4-4-2. Didn't contribute a great deal. 6

Sylvino - Token substitution as time wore down. n/a
