World Cup 2010 - Boateng makes first appearance as Germany progress

Stay connected for news and updates

Soon to be Blue Jerome Boateng made his first appearance in the tournament yesterday evening as his Germany side defeated Ghana 1-0 to finish atop Group D, and of course set up a clash with England on Sunday afternoon.

Boateng played in an unfamiliar role at left back, but looked to be assured and was impressive for the most part before being substituted with little over fifteen minutes remaining.

It was my first look at Boateng and he was a taller, far stronger player than I had imagined and although the assumption was that he slated to slot in at right back for City, a more central role may well be his more natural position.
