POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 24: Tommy Smith of New Zealand and Roque Santa Cruz of Paraguay battle for the ball during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Group F match between Paraguay and New Zealand at Peter Mokaba Stadium on June 24, 2010 in Polokwane, South Africa. Subject to plenty of speculation regarding his future at City, Roque Santa Cruz played a second successive ninety minutes as Paraguay took a point from their goalless draw against New Zealand to finish atop Group H.

The highlights I caught didn't suggest the game would go down in the annals of all-time World Cup encounters but it did see Paraguay ensure a first place finish, and they will move on to the knock-out stages with some confidence.

Paraguay will next face Japan in Pretoria next Tuesday afternoon.
