Bolton 2 - 3 City: Post-Game
The Bolton Wanderers hosted City today at Reebok stadium to what was a very exciting game.
Bolton came out with a 4-4-2 consisting of Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Cahill, Knight, Robinson, Eagles, Muamba, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Davies, Klasnic.
Mancini opted for the 4-2-3-1 of Hart, Kolarov, Kompany, Lescott, Richards, Milner, Barry, Silva, Yaya Toure, Aguero, Dzeko.
There we're a couple of things to take away from this game.
The first and most important that I noticed was that the lack of Nigel de Jong's presence severely hampered the midfield play for City.
Not necessarily for offensive purposes but for defensive. This was evident with the second half in which Bolton came back from a 3-1 deficit to make the game 3-2. They began to play with a sense or purpose and strength that required a stop gap. Usually that stop gap was de Jong, however he was not to be found on the field. His aggressiveness and crisp tackling would have slowed down a resurgence by Bolton if not angered hot-head Phil Robinson to make a game costing mistake.
I was not satisfied with the way Micah Richards was defending the wing against Martin Petrov. He kept giving him too much space and a player of Petrov's calibre you must not do that. He showed what he can do when a little leeway is given by making the game 2-1.
However, Richards made some very nice runs offensively and proved to still be a physical specimen. He is a ball buster that with some more development could turn into one of the best defensive backs in the world.
I was quite upset at the performance our defense put out on the field however that disappointment was taken away by the fact that our offense was clicking on all cylinders.
David Silva, Gareth Barry and Edin Dzeko all scored goals.
Other opportunities arose when Dzeko passed the ball to Richards who then bull dozed Zat Knight and passed it to Sergio Aguero which was slotted in the net. However, the referee called a foul on Michah for his physical play.
The whistle should not have been called as Richards had clearly won the ball and any interference otherwise would have put the blame on the Bolton defender.
Another great chance was a perfect flick by Dzeko from outside the box to Aguero who was clean in the air unchallenged yet he sent the header past the post.
I was a bit surprised that Dzeko managed to bag a score today against what I consider a very strong Bolton team coming off a 4-0 win. He seems to be clicking with the team and the chemistry is building from everyone.
The most under rated player today goes to James Milner. He does not get enough credit for filling the holes that Silva misses. He was a complete workhorse today and his 8.0 rating on Goal.com is well deserved.
As for the man of the match it goes without a doubt to Dzeko for his terrific play today. Not only was his composure there when the team needed it, he also assisted very well to Aguero and Richards respectively and earning an 80% successful passing rate.
Our keeper Joe Hart had a bad day at the office, spreading out nicely but in vain for the second goal conceded.
Overall I was impressed with most of the play other then the second half nail bitter resistance by Bolton. Bolton will finish in the upper half of the table this year and it is good that we can be more aggressive.
I couldn't find any highlights so I must leave you with this short article today. I hope everyone had a good weekend seeing that City won.

I’d have to give a ‘Men’ of the Match award today- Silva and Dzeko were both equally vital and lethal to Bolton. Silva-Dzeko-Aguero combo is looking verrrrry nice right now. Throw in Balo in rotation (I expect Tevez to probably go somewhere in January) and we are looking at one of the deadliest teams in the final third of the pitch. I hope Mancini keeps up this slightly-more-attacking spirit. Couldn’t get a whole lot of a read on his post-match interview, but I think its in consideration.
Big players make big plays
Silva did good today, but there wasn’t a player on the pitch that out performed Dzeko today.
Best game in a City jersey for him.
I was under the mindset that Mancini has stated before that City need more firepower if they want to compete with United.
His acquisition of Aguero adds to that. Not to mention his possible signing of Nasri. The defense is set, he is just fixing the offense. That’s why last year we played so defensively.

In my opinion Silva was better because he was more involved and I can’t remember a single bad touch of his. But both were excellent, doesn’t matter about picking one because they were simply brilliant together! Aguero has to get some credit for it as well
Big players make big plays
Not to nit-pick but Silva did have a couple of bad touches. One of them was when he headed down the ball to the opposition in our own half, and the other was a bad pass, also to Bolton.
In any case, both were absolutely outstanding and I can’t wait to see more of the same.

Dzeko had a bad touch too. Sent the ball out of bounds on the far side line during the second half.
Most under rated player has got to me Milner. The guy was tremendous today.

just watched the extended highlights
Dzeko is really impressing me. Last season he just looked awkward whenever he received the ball.
Very happy for Barry’s goal.
David Hirshey writes long and about Man City
Lots of snark from Hirshey, per usual. His main point seems to be that at Man City, too many chefs will spoil the broth, either from lackadaisical defense or diva-like behavior.
He’s going to have to eat his words sooner or later.
I am just waiting for City to knock off United so I can rub it in to all those Fergy fans.

Wow this guy is a joke. I started laughing a few paragraphs in when he talked about City ‘throwing away points on the road’. City finished last season with 28 points from away matches, which was only second in the league to Arsenal’s 31… yeah, they clearly have major issues when playing away from home…
Big players make big plays
Why can’t writers actually write about City in the present rather than constantly talking about ‘diva’ this, ‘diva’ that and bringing up all the sensationalist headlines of the past year? It gets old and distasteful
Big players make big plays
Yeah, but...
it’s a fair point, I think, to wonder how the players who get “left out” will behave. And let’s face it—someone is going to get left out. Johnson and Tevez to name just two. Nasri, if he comes, will cut into playing time and touches. I’d like to believe that winning will cure all and as long as we keep winning, everyone will be satisfied. Personally, I liked how Mancini handled Tevez; if you’re going to complain, feel free—I’ll just get someone better who really wants to be here (Arguero). He did the same thing with Adebayor—go ahead and be a diva, Emmanuel, but no one wants to see you ahead of Silva, Arguero or Dzeko, much less Tevez.

I think AJ has handled everything very well. Since he’s English, the media swirls rumors around about possible loan deals to Aston Villa, Chelsea, etc. But he has said he’s happy to stay put so long as he plays. he said a few days ago “as long as I play my fair share then I will be happy,”. So I think he will be okay. Tevez I expect to be dealt in January, if not in the coming weeks with Inter getting the Eto’o money and needing another striker. I think the ownership and Mancini are starting to build a good understanding and relationship, things over the past few months have been handled much more neatly and smoothly than in the past.
Big players make big plays
Anyone know what’s going on with Weiss? Hasn’t made the bench for either game yet. Loan possibilities?
Big players make big plays
WHATT? why….
He was my favorite young player on the squad, I was expecting big things of him… why not just do a loan deal? He played so well in preseason! And a 4 mil deal for him is going to be cheap in the end. Also a step back for him, dunno why he would agree to it
Big players make big plays
I would have liked to have seen him get a loan at a PL side this season (someone like a Wigan or Newcastle) where he would have played 25-30 games or so to get a better idea of where he is.
I’m not convinced he impressed at Rangers last season, nor am I convinced he’s impressed the coaching staff. It is interesting to check his Twitter account (@vladiw7) too – you don’t get the impression his heart is really at the club.
A shame to cut him loose so early, but if SWP isn’t even making the bench you have to think Weiss is some way off the starting side.

With the way everyone has been playing I am not surprised he is getting cut.
Shame.
But that’s the way things go.
