Hargreaves move confirmed
Per mcfc.co.uk:
The England midfielder joins as a free agent having left Manchester United at the end of last season. He has signed a one-year contract.
Though injury has taken its toll on the 30-year-old's career, Hargreaves has 42 international caps to his name, has won five league titles at home and abroad and was awarded the England Player of the Year award in 2006, beating off competition fromSteven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and City's own Gareth Barry.
I posted up some thoughts on the signing of Hargeaves yesterday so do check the post out along with the comments thread.

So our team is set in stone?
Again, I’m new to this. In America, teams trade players all the time. Is today’s transfer deadline also a trade deadline? Is there any way a player on City will be playing for another time before the year is out?
Deadline for now is 11pm GMT and then the window opens in January for one month so expect the same nonsense to take place in a couple of months time.
Once we hit January 31st though that is it until the end of the season.

If you want to get more used to the European landscape of the game, I suggest you get a copy of Football Manager 2011. Its basically exactly what it sounds like, sort of like a Manager Mode in Madden (only you don’t actually play games, computer does that for you) except you have control over every little detail of things the way Mancini would in real life (or whatever team you choose), such as player training schedules, private chats with players, giving players new roles within their positions (attacking, defensive, target man, etc.), and areas to focus coaching.. the list goes on and on. And aside from that, you’ll get used to the quirky little rules that the FA has and UEFA as well regarding transfers, squad registrations, and the whole administrative/financial side to the game.
Big players make big plays
From here (tonight at 6 EST) until January 1 our roster is set. Nothing like waivers or free agency in the between-time like you see with MLB, NFL, MLB.
Free agents can sign with teams whenever they like, even outside transfer windows (doesn’t happen very often though), but for example Hargreaves could have signed next week if he wanted to since he was a free agent. I believe Shefki Kuqi did this with Newcastle in February this past season
Big players make big plays
Much obliged to all.
Gonna get me football manager!

Thoughts?
So what’s the thoughts on this move? Hargreaves was a great player, but obviously has had massive injury issues the last couple years. Is he like Michael Owen where he becomes productive later in his career off the bench, or is this a move to grab a name for no other reason than he’s an ex-England International? I like Hargreaves aside from the United bit, mostly because he’s actually Canadian. Obviously he had enough offers to stay in England, but I kinda figured he might have been a name that could have ended up heading to Toronto or Vancouver in the MLS.
My own opinion
The Los Angeles Lakers of the early 80’s had a very good team. They had all-stars at three and sometimes four positions and they won a championship in 1980. Also in the early 80’s, Bob McAdoo had hit the skids, playing just 16 games the previous season and not many more in years before that. He was essentially a forgotten man which was too bad because as a young man, McAdoo could play some ball; rookie of the year in 1973, MVP in 1975. But he had injuries and conflicts with coaches. The Lakers, needing a back-up center for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, took a flyer and traded for Bob McAdoo.
The Los Angeles Times wrote that if he was healthy and could play the way he used to, then the Lakers “haven’t traded for an all-star, they’ve traded for a galaxy.” McAdoo played exceptionally well for the Lakers; they got their galaxy.
And that’s how I feel about Owen Hargreaves. I don’t know how good he will be but I know how good he was. If he is healthy and if he plays like he used to (two very big “ifs”), then Man City has more than an all-star, they got a galaxy.
In short, I don’t know what to expect but I have hopes.
