Goalless at the half, but chances galore

We thought there may be goals and there have been chances aplenty for both sides but some excellent goalkeeping (and the odd miss) means it is goalless at the half. Both sides have attacked well during the first half, with Dortmund in particular looking extremely lively. Of the two, City have looked the less composed at the back with Joe Hart rescuing them on multiple occasions late on. City, in particular David Silva, have attacked well at times but have found their path blocked by a resolute German defence. Yaya Toure has played a reduced and more defensive role and with Javi Garcia having been substituted through injury, the chances of him pushing forward later in the game have reduced. All set then for what should be an exciting second half with all to play for.

City steal a late point to rescue Champions League hopes

That was some second half, and one that was dominated by Dortmund.

City had plenty of attacking intent in the first half, but after the break it was all Dortmund as they took control of the game as Roberto Mancini's tactics were exposed to a degree by the pace and incision of the German side.

Joe Hart kept them at bay for the most part but Jack Rodwell's error let in Reus to give Dortmund what appeared to be the win, but with time running out City won a penalty which Mario Balotelli, of course, converted.

As poorly as City played, and - despite the fact they have played two excellent tams in Madrid and Dortmund so far - they still look to have not quite got to grips with the competition, credit must go to Dortmund who looked the most threatening side from an attacking sense I have seen for some time.

No doubt that City got out of a hole tonight, and it magnifies the importance of the pair of games against Ajax, but how vital could that point turn out to be.
