My Favourite City Highlight

Stay connected for news and updates

A little while ago the football bloggers here on SBNation were asked to share one of their favourite City memories as part of series of posts brought to you by Samsung.

The past couple of seasons have brought us many highlights, not least landing the first trophy in some thirty-five years with the FA Cup win against Stoke and of course the Premier League title that was landed in such dramatic fashion just over a month ago.

However, I have delved into the past to a time when City were not quite the force they are today but were still capable of providing the drama and tension that is seemingly weaved into the very fabric of the club. In May 1999, following relegation to the third tier of English football City recovered from a sticky start to reach the playoff final. There, just like this season, they were into injury time needed two goals to avoid disaster.

A dramatic finish ensued with Paul Dickov grabbing the equaliser that was voted as City's best goal of all time, before going on to win the penalty shoot out that signalled City's recovery.
