Some of the key numbers ahead of Sunday's game:

  • Liverpool's new era under Brendan Rodgers stuttered at the start in the first weekend with a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Brom.
  • In a game with few positives, a lively Luis Suarez had 8 attempts at goal, the joint highest of any player on opening weekend. However, Suarez only got 3 of those attempts on target, compared to rival in this game Carlos Tevez who had 8 attempts at goal with 7 on target.
  • Steven Gerrard was in the top three in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for crosses with 6.
  • Overall Liverpool delivered 16 crosses, putting them third overall, and completed 206 passes in West Brom's half, also putting them in the top five in that category.
  • New signing Joe Allen covered more ground than any other Liverpool player against West Brom with 6.3 miles.
  • Reigning champions Manchester City beat newly promoted Southampton 3-2 in the first game of their title defence.
  • Last season Carlos Tevez made headlines for all the wrong reasons, but he opened the scoring in this game and with 8 attempts at goal shared top spot with Luis Suarez for shots.
  • Samir Nasri was also on the score sheet, and made the top three for both overall distance covered with 6.66 miles and passes completed in his opponent's half with 55.
  • Man City once again proved themselves the most dangerous attacking force in the league, completing a huge 337 passes in Southampton's area and getting 20 shots at goal - both of which were the highest of any team on the opening weekend.
  • City were also in the top three for overall distance covered with 61.73 miles on the clock in total.
